Chapter One: Idea of a Ball

The kingdom of Olympus had always been a prosperous one though with a slightly different approach to ruling. Three kings, Zeus, Poseidon and Hades, ruled the land with their wives and children. Normally each family was in charge of one area of the kingdom, Zeus ruled the mainland in the centre of the kingdom, Poseidon had taken control of the east where the docks and port was, finally Hades ruled over the west. The three brothers knew that one day they would have to step down, and had split their ‘mini kingdoms’ into ‘mini-er kingdoms’ for their children, however all three agreed that all children needed to be married before they stepped down. For Zeus’s eldest they had a loophole, Thalia Grace had joined the Hunters, a group of maidens who helped protect the kingdom alongside the royal army, so she couldn’t marry for obvious reasons. What annoyed them was Hades youngest daughter (Name), she had turned down every suitor her parents and family introduced her too even going as far as breaking one of their noses, and had no interest in anyone she met.

“She’s your daughter do something about her” Zeus snapped at his elder brother, who was the only one who was not bothered by his youngest daughter’s antics. “Force her to marry someone”

“She’d kill them” Poseidon joked trying to defuse the tension between his brothers, it didn’t work Hades and Zeus were still arguing about how it was (Name’s) decision who she married, that she wasn’t going to be stuck in a loveless marriage just to make Zeus happy. Rubbing his forehead, the Sea King looked out of the window, noting the sight of his sons, nieces and nephews outside. From his spot he could see his son Percy wrestling with Zeus’ son and only heir Jason, those two were always entertaining when they were together even if their antics annoyed their wives, Annabeth Chase and Piper McClean. It was easy to see the differences between the children and figure out who their parents were, his and Zeus’ children were more outgoing (or crazier depending on who you asked) compared to the three children of Hades – Hazel, Nico and (Name) – all of who were sat off to the side having a conversation with Frank, Hazel’s former guard turned husband, and Will, Nico’s complete opposite and husband.

“How about we offer (Name) the chance to meet a large group of suitors with the family assisting her?” Persephone threw in, annoyed that this conversation was taking so long and that they were completely forgetting that the (hair coloured) female had been contemplating joining the Hunters, something Hades was completely against given the fate of their eldest daughter Bianca.

“How do you suppose we do that?” Zeus snapped before he was shot a look by his brother that clearly stated ‘Talk to my wife like that again and I will end you’

“A ball, have her meet different people and let her cousins and siblings, the people who know her best, help her to meet people who she’d at least consider marrying”

“That … might actually work” he agreed while Poseidon nodded as well, tearing his gaze off of the next generation of rulers, which were currently trying to shove Percy and Jason into the fountain.

“So we’ll plan a ball for next month” Hades sighed, knowing he would need that long to convince his children for the ball. After what happened to their oldest sister, Hazel and Nico had become a lot more protective of (Name), given the fact that she was also the youngest among her cousins and in-laws who were also overly protective of her.

“It will be in two days. That is enough time to get the invitations sent out” Zeus ordered as he left the room, leaving his two brothers and sister – in -law to glare at his retreating form. “HERMES!”

“So chances of my niece tries to kill someone when she hears about this?” the green eyed king teased his older brother, who looked about ready to murder the nearest person and his sister-in-law who had a similar look on her face.

“High” the king and queen responded darkly as the three looked out of the window that Poseidon had been staring out during the meeting, the actions of their families breaking the tension. Percy and Jason, who had been successfully soaked were ‘tackle hugging’ everyone in order to get everyone as wet as they were.

“However, if she find someone who brings her out of her shell, Zeus’ idea might not be too bad” Persephone claimed, (Name) was rarely out of the company of her family and because of this had a limited view of the world. “As long as it does not blow up in our faces”

There were few times that all of the cousins were together at the ‘Big House’ as it was dubbed, it pretty much meant all of them being at Zeus’ castle, which was the largest of the three. It was a running joke that it was because Percy and Jason had a knack for causing trouble when together, which Hades’ children needed to clean up and play peacemaker.  With most being married it made the group meetings even more interesting as Percy and Annabeth were at each other’s throats ninety percent of the time while Piper did nothing to calm down the cousins, occasionally adding fuel to the fire.

“You know what they are discussing don’t you?” Will asked (Name) who just sighed, it was pretty obvious what the three royals were discussing after the youngest princess had broken the nose of her previous suitor.

“We all know what they are talking about” Piper chimed in, joining the conversation as she and Annabeth gave up on trying to stop their husbands and joining the conversation.

“He had it coming” Nico shrugged, the man who his baby sister had hit wanted a trophy wife and a title, he was not the type of man that any of his family would ever approve of. “They are the only people who she meets though”.

“If you guys keep scaring suitors away, I will never get married” (Name) giggled as she leant on Piper.

“You complaining (Nickname)?”

“Of course not, just bring Thalia back so that you guys can be even scarier”

“Your Highnesses” Hermes announced as he stood in the garden where the next generation of rulers were socialising. “I have been ordered to tell you that a ball will be held in two days so Princess (Name) can find a husband. Good day”

It took a few moments for the young adults to process what the older male had said, before they all looked at each other.

“A HUSBAND?!”
